Who doesn’t dream of a bigger and better home? I always did and my dream took the shape of reality when I heard of really low interest offered by some banks on home loan. I couldn’t resist myself and quickly started exploring good plots to buy and build my own house and give this wonderful happiness as a surprise to my family. I was successful soon and found a plot; it was just the one I had always imagined. As I completed the legal formalities and bought it, the next step was to choose bank that was offering the lowest interest and soon this step was done too. I got the loan amount which was sufficient to help me built my dream home on that dream plot chosen. However to secure that loan, I had mortgaged my current house and offered it as a collateral (it was necessary as banks would just not pay me the huge amount required to built the house in my way).
Sometimes, what you dream is not always what you get. Dreaming big is good but planning and speculating is necessary too. A real hard time struck when I lost my current job due to recession. My company had got bankrupt, so had to lay all the employees off. My house had been built the way I wanted with the loan amount but now I had no means to pay it back. We had shifted to our new house and my family was really happy and unaware of the house being mortgaged. I decided to consolidate my loan and approached debt consolidating company for some debt consolidation loans. They could not offer much help to me and after 2 years of constant endeavor, I was unable to save my house from being taken away by the lender (bank). As we could not maintain our monthly loan installments over and above this settlement, we had to leave this house and shift to some cheaper place too. Today, when I am devastated and hold the responsibility of being the cause of deep suffering of my family, I wonder if my dream deceived me or my greed to achieve it soon (the very emotion on which lenders play today) took me to decline.
